Frequently Asked Questions

Openreach Business Broadband Products

Who are Openreach?

Openreach is the UK’s largest digital network business, responsible for maintaining and building the copper and fibre cables connecting millions of homes and businesses to phone and broadband.

What is SoGEA?

SoGEA (Single Order Generic Ethernet Access) is a UK broadband technology that provides higher-speed, part-fibre internet without needing a traditional copper landline. It is less reliable than FTTP with a maximum speed of 80Mbps, actual speed obtained will depend on line quality and distance from the Openreach cabinet.

What is SoTAP?

SoTAP (Single Order Transitional Access Product) is a UK broadband service providing data-only connections over existing copper lines for homes and businesses where fibre (FTTP/SoGEA) is unavailable. It acts as a temporary "lifeline" during the withdrawal of traditional analog PSTN phone lines, supporting speeds up to 24 Mbps (often lower, ~17 Mbps). Quality of the service is variable and depends on line quality and distance to the exchange.

How much is installation?

Standard & Premium business installation are free on 24 month contracts - more complex installations (which Openreach label as Advanced) will be subject to additional charges. 1 month & 12 month contracts will be subject to an installation charge of £100.00 inc. vat

How much is migration?

Migrating from another Openreach based provider using same technology type (i.e. migrating Openreach FTTP to Openreach FTTP) is free of charge on all packages unless your ONT needs upgrading (i.e. migrating to Fibre 1700 but your only have a 1Gbps ONT) where an ONT upgrade charge will apply on 1 month & 12 month contract packages.

Can I order a home package instead?

Business customers can order 12 month contract home packages which come with standard care at a lower cost. Openreach charge extra for business installs so a premium or advanced installation surcharge will be payable for service installation at business premises.

Do you include a router?

We include a preconfigured router with all 24 month contract packages. If you choose a 1 month or 12 month package then you will need to supply your own router or purchase an Asus or TP-Link router during the ordering process.

Can I choose a different router?

With our 24 month contract packages which have an Asus router you may choose an alternative during the ordering process, exact upgrade charge will depend on which router & package you choose.

Can I use my own router?

Yes you can use your own router but you must ensure it is capable of handling the service and also know how to configure it. We will provide you with PPPoE username & password shortly after your order has been placed with Netomnia.

What speed do I need?

Small business with only a couple of light users may only need 160 Mbit/s service speed. For most businesses 550 or 950 Mbit/s service speed is recommended. If your company is frequently downloading & uploading large documents, videos or datasets then the 1700Mbit/s service speed (where available) is recommended.

How long does service activation take?

A minimum 10 working day lead time applies for all orders. Advanced installs are likely to take much longer.

What installation types do Openreach offer?

Openreach offer Standard, Premium & Advanced installations. Standard installation is mostly for residential properties. Premium installation covers most businesses. Advanced installation is for larger buildings and those having special access rules (schools, medical facilities & other public buildings). Standard & Premium installation is included with our 24 month business packages.

What happens at end of contracted period?

A month before the end of the contracted period we will email you to advise you that your contract is about to end. At this point you may extend your contract using our customer portal (with the rate being the current advertised rate for your package) or change to a different package. If you take no action then your monthly rental will be changed to our current 1 month contract rate.

What happens if I cancel or migrate my service before the end of contracted period?

If you cancel or migrate your service before your contract end date then early termination fees of £24.00 inc. vat per month of contract remaining.

All prices shown include VAT @ 20%.
